Not all of the roles of community theater are in front of the footlights. There are also those who design and operate them. CP is always looking for persons experienced in lighting design, set design, set construction, and stage art. We are even more interested in training newcomers in these crafts. Even if you have no experience but an interest and the willingness to learn, we can help you!
So if you're not ready to venture in front of the spotlight yet but want to get involved and meet new and exciting friends, please contact us at the box office (298-1491) or try our website and send us a message. We love newcomers. If there was any doubt in your mind that this might be for you, give us a try. We'll do our best to welcome you to the County Players family.

It takes a lot of work to put our productions on stage, and to keep our company running. All of that work is done by our dedicated volunteers. We are always looking for new people to help out in all aspects. Its a great way to meet new people while you support your community theatre.
For more information or to volunteer, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Mary Beth Boylan
Anyone who ever wanted to act, from one with no experience to the most seasoned actor, is welcome on our stage. Part of what makes CP successful is the diversity of our participants. Beginning with auditions and ending with the final curtain call, staff and support volunteers are there to help. Many novices worry about learning all the lines or being frightened onstage. Don't let that stop you! During the weeks of rehearsals your role and character will become second nature!
Time Requirement: about 3 nights per week for 8-12 weeks of rehearsal; approximately 3 hours per night; plus 6-7 performances.
We hold open auditions for all roles on stage. See the audition section of our web page for more details.
Volunteers who enjoy building and painting are great for this area! The Set Crew assists helps construct and paint the set and large prop pieces. Set and prop construction is a great place to learn some basic carpentry skills. Training is provided to those without experience.
Time Requirement: Normally weekend days 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. One or more days.
Seamstresses are instrumental in building costumes as well as putting finishing touches on projects. Anyone who can sew--from simple alterations to full-scale construction--can easily become involved as much as your time commitment allows. Hours and times are very adaptable--you can sometimes work at home!
Time Requirement: Flexible, and remember, we can pass along some time-saving tricks to costume construction!
Lighting might sound like it requires a lot of experience, but most of our "experts" learned their trade working on our shows. You'll start out learning the basics, and work your way up to Lighting Designer! If you're not afraid to climb tall ladders, we especially need you, but there is also plenty of work on the ground.
We also need light board operators for technical and dress rehearsals and performances. Our light board is computerized and easy to learn and use.
Time Requirement: Lighting hangs are typically a weekend a few weeks before the show opens, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. If you can only make one day, that's ok too! Board Operators need to be at production week rehearsals and all performances. Usually there are two operators per show, so you only have to do half of the rehearsals/performances.
This is the perfect opportunity to learn and experience what happens behind the scenes of a theatrical production. Crew members are responsible for any sound or special effects needed from backstage and changing the set during scene breaks and at intermission. Running crew is also used to set props both backstage and onstage before and during performances.
Time Requirement:5 rehearsals one week prior to opening and 6-7 performances.
The house manager is responsible for everything that happens on performance nights except the show itself. The house manager: opens the building, supervises the ushers, and generally oversees the smooth running of the performance from out front.
Time Requirement: 1 hour prior to curtain time until the end of the performance for 1 or more performances.
Ushers greet the public, take tickets, help patrons find their seats, and hand out programs. Ushers are friendly and helpful. This is a great way to get started and meet a lot of people. Many ushers volunteer in groups with their friends! We use six to eight ushers per performance.
Time Requirement: 1 or more performances per production (it's up to you!); 45 minutes prior to curtain time until the show ends.
The box office takes ticket orders over the phone, and in person. They also distribute tickets to patrons on performance nights. Our reservation system is completely computerized.
Time Requirement: 6 pm to 9 pm on nights when the box office is scheduled to be open (including performance nights.) 1 or more nights.
We sell a variety of sweets and drinks for our patron's enjoyment before our shows, and at intermission.
Time Requirement: one hour before curtain until end of intermission on performance nights.
